The situation
Amid protests of the presidential election in Kazakhstan, government offices in Almaty and Nur-Sultan are closing or altering their office hours to ensure the safety of their personnel. The duration of closures or altered office hours is unclear at this time.
Impact
The closures may prevent foreign nationals and employers from completing post-arrival processes such as work permit applications to the labour department and notifications to the migration police.
The notification of arrival processes must be completed three business days of the foreign national’s arrival, therefore any delays or closures of the relevant offices can affect the completion of these processes.
Not completing such processes on time can result in penalties on both the employee and host entity.
