
The Enforcement Unit of the Immigration Authority has recently increased its employer audits, which may be performed without prior notice. The purpose of the audits is to ensure employers comply with the immigration laws and to prevent illegal employment.
During the audits, passports and other relevant documents may be examined. Foreign nationals that are found to be working without the proper visa may be subject to immediate detention and deportation. Employers found to be violating immigration laws may face fines and/or criminal indictments.
What This Means for Employers and Foreign Nationals
Employers should work with their administrative and human resources departments to ensure proper immigration paperwork is maintained for all foreign nationals.
