Ethiopia: Re-registration Required by February 8 for Residence Permit Holders and Foreign Companies

Foreign nationals residing in Ethiopia, and foreign companies operating in the country who were not previously registered with the Immigration and Citizenship Service (which usually takes place when foreign nationals are hired), must re-register with ICS by February 8, 2024, after over 20,000 residence permits were found to be counterfeit. To complete re-registration, affected foreign nationals and company representatives must log in to their online government account, submit their business license, Tax Identification Number certificate, and the work and residence permit of the company's General Manager (if they are a foreign national) or a national identity document or passport (if they are an Ethiopian national), or other documents as required. They must also submit these documents in person at the ICS for approval. Foreign nationals failing to comply with the new regulation face deportation and fines. Employers with foreign nationals on their payroll who have not re-registered their residence permits will also face fines.
