Belgium is currently facing an asylum crisis: thousands of asylum seekers are sleeping on the streets due to a lack of shelter. Volunteers from Fragomen and other law firms have banded together to help asylum seekers through a Legal Helpdesk project, an initiative that recently took home a PILnet Local Impact Award for supporting over 3,000 refugees to gain access to shelter and other basic needs.
Following her visit to the Voyaach Helpdesk, Financial Times Europe Express editor Valentina Pop published commentary from Senior Knowledge Manager, Ana Sofia Walsh, and others involved in the initiative in the publication’s daily newsletter, Europe Express, “Belgium under barrage of legal complaints for failing to house migrants” (A subscription may be required to read the content).
