Austin T. Fragomen, Jr., Chairman of the Executive Committee, and Andrew Greenfield, Managing Partner of the Washington, DC office, have been recognized in The National Law Journal’s inaugural list of Immigration Trailblazers.
The Immigration Trailblazers list recognizes professionals who have moved the needle in the industry and made significant marks on the practice, policy and technological advancements in the immigration sector.
NLJ features profiles for Fragomen and Greenfield that highlight their pioneering spirit, the changes they have helped to drive and their insight into the future of immigration.
Fragomen told the NLJ that after graduating from law school, he worked for the House Judiciary Committee when Congress enacted the L visa. Fragomen explains: “It allowed companies to transfer personnel and amended H-1B visas to make it easier to hire foreign nationals. I could see a major shift toward highly skilled and employer-sponsored immigration and saw great growth opportunity.” Austin then joined Elmer Fried P.C., which was later reorganized as Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy. Austin has been at the helm of the firm for 40 years, and under his leadership the firm has grown from a U.S. immigration law practice to a global organization with more than 50 offices in 28 countries.
Greenfield fell into immigration work after spending two years at a litigation firm. He currently serves as a member of the firm’s Executive Committee and the Managing Partner of the Washington, DC office, where our U.S. Government Strategies Group is based. “While a lot of my job involves the business of the firm, being a lawyer and advocate for my clients is what drives me,” he told the NLJ. Greenfield’s clients include some of the largest and best-known companies and brands. He also represents several Washington-based international treaty organizations whose employees have distinguished classification in the immigration statute and are entitled to certain privileges and immunities.
