Fragomen and Interstride Webinar Series: Final Rule on D/S – What It Means for Universities
July 28, 2026 | 3:00 PM — 4:00 PM EDT
Join Fragomen legal professionals for our international student webinar series—in partnership with Interstride—where we’ll explore hot topics in global immigration and provide insights into post-graduation options for living and working in various countries.
Counsel Kimberly Grant and Senior Associate Parminder Sandhu will lead an overview of the Department of Homeland Security’s shift away from the traditional “Duration of Status” (D/S) framework that has governed F international student and J exchange visitor admissions for decades. The proposed rule assigns fixed admission end dates on I-94 records tied to SEVIS program end dates, reduces grace periods and requires USCIS filings to extend stay — a major procedural change for universities and students alike. We’ll discuss how this would affect advising, student planning, compliance reporting and institutional risk management. The presentation will provide practical guidance on what international student offices and students should be preparing for and considering now and in the months ahead. Current D/S policies remain in effect until the rule is finalized.
