Malaysia: New Photograph Verification Processes
August 28, 2026
Malaysian authorities have introduced a new photograph-verification procedure for certain applications submitted through the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and Expatriate Services Division (ESD) systems.
For applications filed through the MDEC, photographs submitted with Employment Pass and related Dependant Pass applications must now also be verified through the eVISA portal. Verification is completed instantly, and photographs must match the applicant’s passport and supporting documents and comply with eVISA/MyVisa specifications. Noncompliant photographs may delay the subsequent eVISA application, which can only be initiated after MDEC approves the underlying application.
Similarly, the ESD has introduced a comparable photo verification process. The key difference is that applicants and employers can access the eVISA verification platform directly through a link within the ESD portal. This provides a more seamless user experience.
