The situation
As part of the security measures for the G-20 summit, most commercial activity in Buenos Aires, including service at government entities, will be closed 11am (local time) November 29 through the end of November 30.
Impact
-
No appointments or applications accepted. Immigration appointments scheduled for November 29 or 30 will not occur, as government immigration offices will be closed those days. Foreign nationals with appointments scheduled for those days will need to reschedule their appointments on or after December 3, when offices re-open. There may be appointment backlogs when offices re-open.
- Delays. Applicants can expect application processing delays once activities resume next week. This is expected to exacerbate the delays that Transitory Residence 24h Visa applicants have been experiencing due to issues with the new online application system.
Background
Argentina will host the G-20 summit on November 30 and December 1, 2018 in Buenos Aires. The government is implementing strict security measures, such as designating November 30 as a national holiday in the city of Buenos Aires, to ensure that all government offices and many private offices/businesses are closed. Travelers are encouraged to contact their travel provider as many areas of the city will be closed to the public and travel into and out of Argentina may be affected.
Looking ahead
Government offices are expected to re-open December 3. Foreign nationals with immigration appointments scheduled for the next two weeks should contact their immigration provider for guidance.
