Guyana: Delays in Visitor Visas and Extensions of Stay

Processing times for Visitor Visas on Arrival (VVOA) and Extensions of Stay in Guyana are currently experiencing delays. Based on recent observations, these applications are taking approximately one to two weeks longer than the usual 15 business day timeframe. The delay impacts visa nationals who must obtain a VVOA for short-term business travel, as well as dependents who are required to enter Guyana on a VVOA before applying for a dependent visa - referred to as an Extension of Stay or Family Extension. The longer processing time is due to added internal reviews by the Ministry of Home Affairs, including checks to confirm the principal applicant’s work permit and tax compliance before approving dependent applications. Given this added scrutiny, affected travelers should anticipate extended timelines and allow for an extra one to two weeks when planning their applications.
