Home Office Announcement Clarifies Rights of EU Nationals in the United Kingdom

A joint statement by the Cabinet Office, Home Office and Foreign and Commonwealth Office has revealed that the government “fully expect that the legal status of EU nationals living in the UK, and that of UK nationals in EU member states, will be properly protected”.
The statement also explains that there has ben no change to the rights and status of EU nationals in the United Kingdom, and UK nationals in the EU, as a result of the referendum.
The announcement states that permanent residence is still available to EU nationals who have spent over five years in the United Kingdom, and that EU nationals still do not need to register to enter the United Kingdom without a visa.
