Malaysia
The Malaysian Immigration Department (MID) has announced the reissuance of the foreign national identification document called the iKAD for foreign nationals applying for Employment and Dependant’s Passes in Malaysia or who have held such passes since September 2014. The iKAD (formerly known as iPass) was discontinued in September 2014.
Applying for an iKAD
Foreign nationals applying for Employment Passes and Dependant's Passes can request an iKAD from the MID as soon as their passes are endorsed in their passports. Those who have been issued an Employment Pass or Dependant's Pass since September 2014 can retroactively request an iKAD from MID by presenting a copy of their passport with their pass endorsement. Foreign nationals who were issued Employment Passes or Dependant's Passes by a state immigration office other than MID can also request an iKAD from the MID.
Currently, iKADs are issued within one to two weeks of application submission. There is no government fee for this process.
What This Means for Foreign Nationals
Frequent travelers will benefit from the iKAD as they will be able to travel within West Malaysia without their original passports.
