Based on a verbal update from local Foreigners Regional Registration Offices (there has not been an official government announcement or publication to this effect), foreign nationals of Indian origin (through lineage or previous Indian nationality) can now apply for a permit to work based on their Entry Visa. Previously, there was no option to work under Entry Visa status in India, and foreign nationals of Indian origin had to apply for a work permit or Overseas Citizen of India Card to be able to work. As this policy is new and related impacts are not yet clear, we will publish an update when there is more clarity. In the meantime, affected foreign nationals should contact their immigration professional for case-by-case advice.
