Partner Rahul Soni was quoted in Investopedia and IMI Daily on President Trump’s proposed $5 million “Gold Card” visa, which would grant legal residency through investment, potentially positioning the US as a high-end option for global investors.
He explained that, unlike the EB-5 visa program, which requires a minimum investment of $800,000 in job-creating projects and typically returns the investment, the "Gold Card" would function as a direct "donation" to the US government, granting legal residency and a pathway to citizenship, potentially without job creation requirements. Rahul emphasized that implementing this new visa would require congressional approval, discussing how the new program might co-exist with the EB-5 program, providing additional pathways to US permanent residency and citizenship.
Rahul also noted that while other countries offer citizenship through investment, their programs cost significantly less, with Caribbean options averaging around $300,000. He shared how some European countries have similar pathways, but their policies are facing a push by the European Commission to increase restrictions on investor visas.
