Ireland: Stricter Family Sponsorship Requirements

Effective June 12, 2026, Ireland increased the financial thresholds for individuals seeking to sponsor non-EEA/Swiss/UK family members for family reunification purposes and introduced new accommodation requirements for certain sponsors. The updated requirements include the following:

• • Irish national sponsors: A gross income of at least EUR 75,000 over a three-year period (EUR 25,000 per year), up from the previous EUR 40,000 over three years (EUR 13,333 per year).  
  • Foreign national sponsors with Category C status (including General Employment Permit holders): A minimum annual net salary of EUR 39,780 to sponsor one dependent child, up from the previous EUR 36,660. As before, the required amount increases by approximately EUR 5,000-6,000 net for each additional dependent child.  
  • Additionally, foreign national sponsors with Category C status may (depending on the discretion of authorities) need to demonstrate at a later stage in the application process that they have suitable accommodation for dependent family members (including providing proof of ownership or tenancy details). If requested, such documentation would need to be provided within six months of the request. Previously, no such requirement applied.
