Italy: Domestic Implementation of Blue Card Directive Likely Imminent
September 21, 2023
Italy is expected to soon approve and implement legislation which will align domestic law with the EU Blue Card Directive, increasing visa pathways for various highly-skilled applicants. Eligible applicants would include (among others): university-educated individuals, people with five years of relevant professional experience, and certain seasonal workers. Information and communication technology managers or specialists with three years relevant experience would also be eligible. The Council of Ministers must still vote on the legislative decree (which the government originally proposed in mid-2023). This is likely to occur prior to November 18, 2023 – which is the deadline to implement the EU Directive. We will continue to monitor developments and provide further information when available.
