Italy: New Quota Spots Approved
October 26, 2023
The Italian government has approved approximately 450,000 spots for work permits for the next three years for subordinate and seasonal work and self-employment, offering 136,000 places for 2023, 151,000 places for 2024, and 165,000 places for 2025. Some quotas are reserved for certain nationalities, and the sectors affected include building, hospitality and tourism, mechanics, telecommunications, food, shipbuilding, transportation of passengers by bus, fishing, electricians and plumbers, among others. For the 2023 quota, employers will be able to submit applications at the Ministry of Interior portal for a) non-seasonal subordinate workers from countries that have cooperation agreements with Italy from December 2, 2023; b) other non-seasonal subordinate workers from December 4, 2023; and c) seasonal workers from December 12, 2023. Permits under the quota are granted on a first-come, first-served basis – with quotas often being filled on or around the first day that they are offered.
