In an article published in Kiplinger, Director Audrey Morew outlined the considerations for US retirees interested in relocating to Finland, which does not offer a retirement-specific visa.
Audrey noted that Americans may apply for a residence permit under the “residence permit on other grounds” category if they can demonstrate private income, health insurance and strong personal ties to the country. She added that the process can be complex and may take six to 12 months, with Finnish authorities typically requiring applicants to show financial independence rather than relying on sponsorship from relatives or friends.
