Effective immediately, nationals of Algeria, India, Lebanon, Pakistan, the Philippines, Syria and Tunisia must register with the Immigration Authority or to a respective police station with an Immigration Department desk, within seven days of each entry into Egypt, regardless of immigration status. The Immigration Authorities have also announced that nationals of most Eastern Asian countries are also subject to this requirement; however, no official list has been published yet, making it impossible to identify the additional nationalities at this point.
The new requirement applies to holders of all categories of visas, including business, tourist and work visas as well as Egyptian residency permits.
Affected individuals must present the original passport used for entry to Egypt upon registration with the authorities. They must complete this registration requirement within seven days upon each entry to Egypt.
Failure to comply with the registration requirement may result in problems while departing Egypt, inability to obtain Residency Visa endorsement and/or monetary fines ranging from EGP 350 to EGP 1,500.
What This Means for Employers and Foreign Nationals
Nationals of Algeria, India, Lebanon, Pakistan, the Philippines, Syria and Tunisia must report to the Immigration Authority or to a respective police station with an Immigration Department with the original passport within seven days of each entry to Egypt, irrespective of their immigration status or purpose of stay.
