Mozambique: Changes in Entry, Stay and Exit Law for Foreign Nationals Forthcoming

The Assembly of the Republic has revised the entry, stay and exit requirements for foreign nationals who travel to Mozambique. This revised law is aimed at restricting immigration enforcement and inspection measures and will come into effect on a date to be announced in the government gazette. Key changes include: minors only traveling with one parent will need to provide notarized permission from the other parent; foreign nationals sponsored by an employer may need to provide proof of sufficient funds for their stay, likely in the form of a bank or credit card statement (and the employer may need to submit a letter accepting responsibility for the traveler’s livelihood costs and if needed, repatriation); and an expanded list of causes for deportation, including for foreign nationals without work visas or those found to be working for employers for which they are not authorized to work. The related regulations are expected to be published soon and will clarify these points.
