About Mozambique
Whether your company is sending employees to Mozambique or expanding your worldwide footprint—Fragomen is here to help. Our experienced immigration professionals partner with businesses of all sizes to develop immigration strategies that can help you achieve your goals.
- The immigration laws of Mozambique provide several options for employers of foreign nationals. Requirements, processing times, employment eligibility, and benefits for accompanying family members vary by visa classification.
- Business visitors can obtain a Short-Term Work Visa for a maximum consecutive stay of 30 days from the entry date. A single extension is available. The 90-day Short-Term Work Visa is typically issued for multiple entries.
- Short-Term Work: If you work in the mining or oil and gas industry and are traveling to Mozambique to conduct short-term work, the Short-Term Work Permit for the mining, oil & gas sector may be suitable. It is generally valid for six months and allows a stay of up to 180 days per calendar year. Upon approval of the Short-Term Work Permit, a Short-Term Work Visa is obtained upon arrival. Preapproval is required and reserved solely for employers involved in the Rovuma Basin. For other sectors (non-mining or non-oil & gas), this permit allows a 120-day stay per calendar year. It can be applied as a new application once the initial permit expires (at the discretion of the Labour Directorate). Holders of a Short-term Work Permit must obtain a Short-Term Work Visa to enter Mozambique. Upon arrival, the Short-Term Work Visa can be extended at immigration in-country for the duration of the permit.
- For longer-term work, there are two broad categories of work authorization in Mozambique: work authorization within the employer's quota, known as a "communication of admission of foreign employee," and a work permit outside the quota.
Fragomen can also consult on citizenship matters and, as permitted within the confines of local law, may be able to offer citizenship assistance.
