Executive Summary
As projected, effective January 1, 2018, Romania’s national minimum wage will increase by approximately 31 percent.
The situation
As projected, effective January 1, 2018, Romania’s national minimum wage will be increased from RON 1,450 per month to RON 1,900 per month.
Impact
The national minimum wage does not significantly impact foreign workers without dependents because employers of foreign workers must pay a much higher minimum salary that is based on the worker’s skill level.
However, foreign nationals must earn at least the amount of the national monthly wage above their minimum salary to sponsor a dependent.
