Mainland Chinese nationals entering Taiwan for business visits not exceeding 30 days can now obtain their Entry/Exit Permits in three to five business days, in accordance with new regulations released by the Taiwanese government which took effect on January 1. Previously, Entry/Exit Permits for business visitors took ten to fourteen calendar days.
The regulations also allow Chinese nationals with a child studying in Taiwan in post-secondary college or university or living in Taiwan as the spouse of a Taiwanese resident to visit their child in Taiwan for up to three months.
The Taiwanese government has also implemented an online visa application system for mainland Chinese residents, which was made mandatory for all business visitors and professionals effective January 1.
What This Means for Employers
These measures should facilitate business and family visits by reducing entry requirements and waiting times for business visitors and qualifying parents from mainland China.
Employers must be mindful that business travelers, professionals and visitors from mainland China must continue to comply with Chinese exit formalities before departing for Taiwan.
