Online Visa Application System Introduced
June 25, 2015
Kenya
A new online platform for visa applicants - called eVisa – will be launched in Kenya on July 1, 2015, according to an announcement by the Department of Immigration Services (DIS). The introduction of the eVisa is in line with immigration process improvements.
Online Applications Process
Foreign nationals applying for a Kenyan visa will be able to create login details, fill out an online application form and pay a non-refundable fee at www.ecitizen.go.ke. Upon successful payment and form submission, the applicant will receive an eVisa document by email. Visa nationals must present this eVisa printout upon arrival. If approved for entry, the actual visa will be issued and endorsed on the traveler’s passport upon arrival.
It is not clear whether foreign nationals that must apply for visas in their country of residence prior to travel will be able to use the eVisa system. Visa-exempt foreign nationals will be exempt from the eVisa requirement.
What This Means for Foreign Nationals
The eVisa should streamline the visa application process for business visitors and tourists who require an entry visa. Entry authorization will remain at the discretion of the immigration authorities.
