Portugal: Remote Work Visa Applications Now Open

Applications are now open for the Remote Work Residence Visa, a new employment-based visa for remote workers and self-employed individuals. This pathway is part of Portugal’s efforts to expand employment-based visa programs to remote workers employed or self-employed abroad, where these individuals previously had to apply for a visa based on passive income or provision of services. The visa will be valid for up to 120 cumulative days, with two entries allowed; renewable for up to 90 days. Applicants must present proof of residence and an income equivalent to EUR 2,820 per month – this amount increases by 50% if an accompanying family member is over 18 years old or 30% if under 18. Processing times are currently up to 60 days. We are confirming details regarding a potential temporary residence permit process once foreign nationals are in Portugal.
