Japanese nationals holding Employment Visas with residence permits and their dependents (on X visas) will now have the same validity period on their residence permits as on their visas, even if it is beyond the general cap of twelve months, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Further, Japanese nationals will no longer have to appear in person to complete immigration formalities at local Foreigners Regional Registration Offices (FRRO) / Foreigners Registration Offices (FRO), for both initial registrations and subsequent visa and residence permit extensions. Duly authorized company representatives with valid proof of identity can apply on behalf of the Japanese national.
What This Means for Employers and Foreign Nationals
Japanese nationals in India will no longer be required to extend their residence permits every twelve months, as the resident permits are issued coterminous to the visa validity.
Employers can now arrange for authorized representatives to submit visa and residence permit extension applications on behalf of Japanese nationals.
