Short-Term Visa Holders to be Impacted by Airline Strike on October 31, 2017
October 30, 2017

Executive Summary
Foreign nationals who hold 24(h) short-term visas may be impacted by an Aerolineas Argentinas strike on October 31, 2017. Since travel plans to Buenos Aires, where renewal applications must be filed, may be disrupted by the strike, foreign nationals whose visas will expire shortly should make alternate travel plans and renew their visa applications as soon as possible.
The situation
Aerolineas Argentinas strike cancels flights on October 31, 2017.
A closer look
Aerolineas Argentinas, the main airline in Argentina, has scheduled a strike for tomorrow, October 31, 2017, which effectively cancels all international and local flights in and out of Argentina on this airline. This is the first major recent strike to affect international flights.
Impact on travelers and visa renewals
This particularly affects those who need to fly to Buenos Aires to renew their 24(h) short-term visa, since renewal applications can only be filed in Buenos Aires shortly before the expiration of the visa.
Therefore, travelers seeking to enter Argentina tomorrow on Aerolineas Argentinas, especially those with 24(h) short-term visas expiring October 31, November 1 and November 2, should find alternate means of transportation to Buenos Aires so they can timely renew their visas.
Since the only way to renew a short-term visa is in person in Buenos Aires, the government is granting renewal applications for those who submit their application at most 30 days after the visa expires. Such renewals will be charged an additional fee of ARS 550 (approximately USD 32), for a total of ARS 1,450.
