Effective November 1, 2022, government fees for passport and travel document issuance will increase between 50-200%. Additionally, fees will be higher for applications filed abroad, which is not currently the case. In-country fees will be set at ZAR 600 (up from ZAR 400 for adult 32-page passports and child passports; ZAR 300 for non-citizen travel documents; ZAR 350 for crew member certificates), or ZAR 1,200 for adult 48-page passports (up from ZAR 800). Out-of-country applications will increase to ZAR 1,200 (up from ZAR 400) for adult 32-page passports and child passports, or ZAR 2,400 for adult 48-page passports (up from ZAR 800). Emergency travel certificate fees will remain unchanged at ZAR 140. The fee increase follows a benchmarking exercise which found South African passport processing fees low when compared to other countries; and reflects increased production costs.
