Sweden: Faster Processing Times for Highly Qualified, EU Blue Card, ICT Permits, Other Roles

Sweden has shortened its standard government processing times for highly qualified, EU Blue Card, Intra-Corporate Transferee Permits, and researchers to 30 days (down from 90 days). This timeframe only applies to applications which are complete and accurate (otherwise, based on practitioner experience, the timeframe can extend to up to four months). Additionally, this shortened timeframe does not apply to highly qualified employees in industries that require additional government scrutiny per the country’s four-tier assessment system (such roles are those listed under Category D of this system). Shorter processing times will ensure that foreign nationals are able to start working sooner. This will allow employers to resolve talent shortages more quickly, while also allowing more flexible talent management. Such reform is also likely to make Sweden a more attractive market for foreign talent.
