Total Contractor: Law Firm Urges Contractors To Act Quickly as Roofers Added to Expanded Shortage Occupation List

The UK Home Office has expanded its Shortage Occupation List to include roofers, bricklayers, plasterers and carpenters in the construction industry, allowing easier access to overseas workers through sponsorship.

The inclusion of these roles aims to address shortages recognized after a review by the Migration Advisory Committee, and offers sponsors the benefit of reduced salary requirements and visa fees for sponsoring employers. In a recent Total Contractor article, Senior Associate Kirsty Moore suggests that due to other impending visa fee increases, construction businesses should consider submitting applications sooner rather than later.
