United Kingdom: Government Proposes to Expand Business Visitor Visa and Youth Mobility Schemes
November 22, 2023

The UK Chancellor delivered a statement to the UK Parliament today, setting out the government’s proposals for the management of the UK economy in the period leading up to the general election in 2024. The government’s commitment includes expanding the activities allowed under the UK business visitor visa for intracompany transferees in January 2024, allow more work to be permitted for the legal services sector under business visitor visa status, and clarifying activities that those undertaking paid engagements can perform under the visa. The government will also be expanding new and existing Youth Mobility Schemes with other countries to make sure the next generation of talent have a wide range of opportunities to live, work and travel abroad and experience other cultures. For example, there will be 9,100 places added to various mobility scheme agreements, including with Japan and South Korea. The government will also explore the potential for further enhanced provisions related to trade negotiations.
