Fragomen’s Marlene Z. Stanger and Careen Shannon recently participated in a presentation on immigration to the fellows of the National Defense University (NDU).
The group consisted of military personnel from 51 countries—from the ranks of Lieutenant Colonel to Brigadier General—who toured San Diego as part of their year-long program to learn first-hand about critical topics that shape U.S. relations with our foreign allies, including securing our country's borders and immigration.
As a part of the program, Marlene had the honor of coordinating and moderating a panel at the California Western School of Law, consisting of:
- Careen Shannon, Partner and Communications Director at Fragomen
- Carmen Chavez, Executive Director of the Casa Cornelia Law Center-- with whom our San Diego office partners in its pro bono work
- Kathryn Nicholls, Senior Manager HR with a San Diego client of the firm
While Careen discussed the history of immigration with an explanation of the current climate, Carmen talked about asylees, refugees and helping unaccompanied children, and Kathryn shared thoughts on immigration from an employer's perspective.
