Malaysia: Online Filing of Initial and Renewal Employment Pass Applications Forthcoming for MDEC Applications
April 22, 2024
Effective April 24, 2024, company representatives of employers under the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) will need to file initial and renewal Employment Pass applications online through the Xpats Gateway, using the same login credentials as the MDEC Expats System. Previously, this Xpats Gateway online filing process was only required for applications sponsored by companies under the Expatriate Services Division. According to the Minister of Economy, this approach is consistent with the government's Single Window initiative for foreign knowledge worker applications. It is not clear whether the online filing process will result in a faster processing time, or other practical implications of the new process. Impacted applicants and employers should contact their immigration provider for details.
