About Botswana
Whether you’re looking to visit, live or work in Botswana—we can support your immigration needs at every stage of your journey.
If you’re a foreign national looking to visit, live and/or work in Botswana, several options are available.
- Business Visits: As a business visitor and depending on your citizenship, you'll generally enter Botswana without a visa, or need to secure a Business Visa from a Botswanan consular post before your travel. Business visas are typically issued for single or multiple entries and allow for an initial stay of up to 90 days within a 12-month period. Extensions are uncommon and solely granted at the discretion of the immigration authorities.
- Work Authorization: The main work authorization categories are the Short-Term Work Permit, suitable if you're conducting hands-on work for up to 90 days; and an Employment Visa, for assignments exceeding 90 days or if you're on the host employer's payroll. Once you enter with an Employment Visa, you must also apply for a Work Permit.
- Internships/Traineeships: While there are no trainee-specific work authorization programs in Botswana, you may qualify for an Employment Visa if you're planning to undertake an internship. The visa is valid for 6 months and extensions are accepted upon justification.
- Self-employment: If you're an investor or entrepreneur, you may qualify for an Investment Visa. It is issued if you enter the country regularly as an executive director of a company within Botswana or if you have investment projects in Botswana. It is valid for a period ranging from six months to up to five years and is renewable.
Fragomen can also consult on citizenship matters and, as permitted within the confines of local law, may be able to offer citizenship assistance.
