About Ghana
Whether you’re looking to visit, live or work in Ghana—we can support your immigration needs at every stage of your journey.
If you’re a foreign national looking to visit, live, and/or work in Ghana, several options are available.
- Business Visits: As a business visitor and depending on your citizenship, you'll generally need to secure a Business Visa (B-1) from a Ghanaian consular post before your travel. B-1 visas allow for single or multiple entries, with an initial stay of 30 to 60 days; they can be extended once for 60 days, for a total maximum stay of 120 days.
- Work Authorization: The three main types of work authorizations in Ghana, which can be granted for up to 12 months, include the Standard Long-Term Work Permit, (In-Quota) for companies with a pre-approved quota; the Standard Long-Term Work Permit (no quota but longer processing time) for all other foreign national workers; and the Petroleum Commission Work Permit for companies active in the Petroleum sector.
- Internships/Traineeships: There is no trainee-specific work authorization category.
- Self-employment: Ghana has work authorization programs for potential investors or entrepreneurs. As an investor, you may apply for quotas through the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC). Quotas are granted based on the capital investment made in the country. Once your investment in Ghana is approved, the GIPC certificate is issued; it is valid for two years and is renewable.
Fragomen can also consult on citizenship matters and, as permitted within the confines of local law, may be able to offer citizenship assistance.
