About Hong Kong SAR
Whether you’re looking to visit, live or work in Hong Kong—we can support your immigration needs at every stage of your journey.
Hong Kong is a special administrative region (SAR) of the People's Republic of China. Chinese nationals who are residents of the mainland are subject to special immigration procedures and categories and may be ineligible for certain visa programs. If you’re a foreign national looking to visit, live and/or work in Hong Kong SAR, several options are available.
- Business Visits: Most nationals are visa exempt for short business or social visits. However, if you're a non-exempt foreign national, you'll need to obtain a Business Visitor Visa before you travel to Hong Kong SAR. This visa is generally valid for up to 180 days depending on your nationality.
- Work Authorization: The main work authorization category is a General Employment Visa, which is valid for up to 36 months. The sponsoring company applies for the Employment Visa while the foreign national is outside the country. Approval is at the sole discretion of the Hong Kong Immigration Department.
- Internships/Traineeships: If you're traveling to Hong Kong SAR as a trainee, the Training Visa is an option. It can be issued for up to 12 months and cannot be renewed. To qualify, (1) your sponsoring company must guarantee your maintenance and repatriation; (2) you will receive training on your sponsor's premises until the end of the agreed period; (3) you must indicate the proposed duration and the training program content.
- Self-employment: The Capital Investment Entrant Scheme is a program dedicated to potential investors or entrepreneurs in Hong Kong SAR.
Fragomen can also consult on citizenship matters and, as permitted within the confines of local law, may be able to offer citizenship assistance.
