With the H-1B lottery becoming increasingly competitive, international students face significant uncertainty about their career paths after graduation. At the 2025 NAFSA Region XII Conference, Parminder Sandhu, Chair and Presenter from Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy, LLP, will lead a session that provides a practical framework for advising students who either do not secure—or choose not to pursue—an H-1B.
The session will explore U.S. immigration alternatives such as the O-1 and cap-exempt H-1Bs, as well as global career opportunities and remote-first roles. Attendees will gain practical strategies for guiding students in building careers that align with both their professional aspirations and immigration realities.
Learning Objectives
- Explore Alternatives: Identify U.S. immigration pathways beyond the H-1B lottery, including the O-1 visa and cap-exempt H-1B.
- Expand the Lens: Recognize the responsibility to support international students’ job searches across global markets, not just within the U.S.
- Build Strategic Guidance: Learn how to advise students on aligning career goals with immigration realities and how cross-campus collaboration can strengthen support for navigating global job markets.
