Bloomberg Law: Lawyers Skeptical of Trump DOJ Claim on Foreign Students’ Status

Nearly 5,000 international students have had their Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) records unexpectedly terminated, putting their legal status and work eligibility in question. Speaking with Bloomberg Law, Partner Aaron Blumberg discussed the ripple effects for students and employers alike.

He explained that termination of an SEVIS record can lead to confusion about a student's legal status and eligibility to work, often resulting in the student being placed on administrative leave while their employer seeks clarity. Since an active SEVIS record is tied to work authorization and future immigration benefits, the lack of guidance is creating significant challenges for both students and the companies that rely on them.
