Brazil: Visa Requirement Date for Nationals of Australia, Canada and the United States Postponed

Update December 4, 2023: The Electronic Visa (eVisa) system for nationals of Australia, Canada and the United States is now open. These nationals can now apply through the system for an e-visa if they intend to travel to Brazil on or after January 10, 2024. Interested applicants can contact their Fragomen professional for assistance.
The government of Brazil has delayed the reinstatement of the visa requirement for nationals of Australia, Canada and the United States until January 10, 2024, after it was set to be implemented on October 1, 2023. As a reminder, starting on this date, Brazil will revoke visa exemptions for nationals of Australia, Canada and the United States, requiring such nationals to obtain an e-visa when traveling to Brazil for tourism, business, sports activities, or artistic performances or when transiting through Brazilian airports. Until then, the visa exemption will remain valid, meaning that those entering on or before January 9, 2024, are exempt from a Visitor Visa, even if they intend to depart Brazil after January 10, 2024. The government also announced that the e-visa platform is expected to go live at least 30 days before the enforcement of the visa requirement and travelers intending to visit Brazil on or after January 10, 2024, will be able to request their e-visas in advance. Additionally, the Embassy of Brazil may grant physical visas to Australian passport holders on an exceptional basis. As an additional reminder, while Japan was originally included on the visa revocation list, Brazil and Japan have since announced a visa waiver agreement and the visa requirement for nationals of Japan entering Brazil will no longer apply.
