Companies registered with the Expatriate Services Division (ESD) who plan to submit Professional Visit Pass (PVP) applications in 2017 are required to submit projections for the number of foreign nationals they wish to sponsor under PVPs. ESD introduced the requirement on December 5, 2016.
PVP applications filed in 2016 are exempt from this requirement.
Companies registered with both ESD and the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) must also submit their Employment Pass (EP) projections for 2017 as soon as possible, for both initial and renewal applications. Approved EP projection numbers granted in 2016 will not be valid in 2017, even if there are unutilized numbers left.
What This Means for Companies and Foreign Nationals
Although there is no deadline for submissions, companies registered with ESD or MDEC should submit their 2017 EP and PVP projections as soon as possible to avoid delays. Companies that do not have approved projections for 2017 will not be able to submit initial or renewal EP or PVP applications in 2017 until they obtain the required projection approval. Foreign nationals in Malaysia under an EP may need to leave Malaysia if their new EPs cannot be obtained prior to the expiry of their current EPs.
Fragomen Malaysia has been working with its clients locally to ensure timely projection submissions.
