Organised by the Netherlands Migration Law Foundation (SMN) & the Centre for Migration Law (CMR), Radboud University
The SMN Annual Conference focuses on the timely and complex theme of work and migration law, addressing the legal and policy dimensions of labour migration in the Netherlands. With labour shortages affecting multiple sectors, and labour migrants forming the largest migrant group in the country, the programme explores the rights of various categories of workers—including students, asylum seekers, EU citizens, highly skilled migrants, seasonal workers, and posted workers.
Sessions examine the role of employers, government institutions, legal professionals, NGOs, and local authorities in shaping inclusive labour migration systems. The conference is aimed at a broad professional audience, including lawyers, judges, policymakers, HR managers, trade unions, employer organisations, and academics.
Partner Christine Sullivan of Fragomen will contribute to the session on the motivations and retention of international STEM students and researchers during the workshop scheduled for 3:00 pm to 4:15 pm on May 22nd. Her reflection will offer a legal perspective on how current frameworks support—or hinder—the long-term integration of global talent in the Dutch labour market. Sullivan’s insights focus on aligning migration law with the practical needs of international researchers and the strategic goals of talent retention in the STEM sector.
