A UNESCO World Heritage site and home to some of the world’s leading international corporations and financial institutions, Amsterdam is the thriving hub for culture, international trade and finance of the Netherlands. Many consider the Netherlands to be a “Gateway to Europe” due to its business-friendly environment. Fragomen has been supporting clients and individuals on Dutch immigration matters since the establishment of our Benelux practice in our Brussels office, the first Fragomen international office to be opened outside the U.S., in 1999, and we were pleased to announce the opening of our Amsterdam office in 2021.
Fragomen has a best-in-class team of professionals dedicated to providing guidance and support for immigration matters to and from the Netherlands. The Netherlands business climate is welcoming and dynamic, and business growth in this country has been fast paced. Given the strategic opportunities that the Netherlands presents, many large multinationals choose this country as their European or EMEA headquarters. For individuals, the Netherlands also offers a favorable environment for American citizens to obtain residence and work authorization through the Dutch-American Friendship Treaty (DAFT).
Fragomen’s Netherlands team has experience working across a number of industries, including financial services, technology and energy (including green and sustainable energies as well as on and offshore work).
We understand the local business ecosystem, and partners with newly arriving companies to ensure speed-to-ground and immediate results. Often, this means partnering with regional or federal authorities, to arrive at creative, efficient and compliant solutions. We also regularly assist with M&A activities, expansion plans and strategic workforce planning and project management, leveraging creative solutions such as the International Trade Regulation (ITR).
Fragomen’s Dutch and English-speaking immigration professionals have deep local and international legal knowledge and practical experience assisting companies to establish and grow in the Netherlands. We work with Dutch immigration authorities and have excellent relationships with senior immigration officials, meaning we can advocate for practical immigration policy, pass on first-hand knowledge of proposed legislative and procedural changes, and proactively adapt immigration programs to ensure maximum efficiency and compliance. For example, we are currently providing feedback on the recognized sponsorship scheme and what compliance struggles our clients regularly face.
