In the wake of the results of the US presidential election, Partner Blake Miller shares insights on how major tech companies are navigating the uncertainties surrounding potential immigration policy changes in a recent Forbes article.
He notes that many of these companies are becoming more proactive in addressing visa issues for their employees ahead of President-elect Trump’s second term, including looking to renew visas early, especially for those whose visas are set to expire in the next 12 to 18 months. In particular, he highlights cases where employees might be eligible for early renewal through amendments, such as those who have been promoted since their last visa renewal.
Blake also advises employees to consider renewing their visas abroad to gain more flexibility in case there are new travel bans or delays at US consulates. He anticipates that companies may face challenges in the future if restrictive immigration policies are reintroduced, which could lead to a potential reduction in the hiring of foreign-born talent.
