Guyana: Stricter Rules for Expired Permission to Land Extensions

Effective immediately, the Ministry of Home Affairs in Guyana has revised its policy on expired Permission to Land (PTL) Approval Letter extensions, adding new procedural requirements for foreign nationals seeking to work in the country. Previously, if a PTL extension expired, foreign nationals could apply for a new PTL and continue their work permit application process without interruption. However, under the new policy, foreign nationals whose PTL extension expires must now cancel their pending work permit application before reapplying. The cancellation process takes approximately 14-16 days, and only after its completion can applicants submit a new PTL and work permit application - requiring new documentation and payment of applicable fees. As a reminder, foreign nationals may apply for a single three-month PTL extension for a fee of GYD 20,000 (approximately USD 90). If the extension expires, obtaining a new PTL is still an option but now comes with the added burden of restarting the work permit process.
