Guyana: Extension of Permission to Land Approval Letters Now Possible
October 6, 2023
In a change of policy, the Ministry of Home Affairs in Guyana is now allowing foreign nationals who are not ready to travel to Guyana to extend the validity of their Permission to Land Approval Letter for an additional three months. A Permission to Land Approval Letter allows foreign nationals to enter Guyana and work during the processing of their Work Permit applications and typically must be used to enter Guyana within six months of issuance. Only one extension per foreign national is allowed. To extend the approval letter, foreign nationals must apply to the Ministry of Home Affairs (through their authorized third party) no more than one day before the letter’s expiration date and pay a fee of GYD 20,000 (approximately USD 91). According to the Ministry, the processing time for the extension is seven business days.
