On November 21, 2025, a new reciprocity-based visa system took effect as part of the Malawian government’s broader measures aimed at strengthening the economy. Under this system, nationals of countries that were added to the expanded visa waiver list that do not currently have reciprocal visa arrangements with Malawi must now obtain and pay for an eVisa prior to travel, with fees ranging from USD 50 to USD 250, depending on the visa type and duration of stay. This represents a significant change from the previous requirement, under which these affected nationals were visa-exempt, only required a valid passport for entry, and did not pay any entry visa fees.
