The situation

The security situation in Saudi Arabia is escalating amid the conflict with Yemen’s Houthis, with reported aerial projectile activity affecting Riyadh and the southwestern provinces, particularly around Abha, Khamis Mushait and Najran. Immigration processing remains largely unaffected across the Middle East, while airports in Saudi Arabia continue to experience travel disruptions.

A closer look

  • Air travel. Gulf airports remain operational and regional airspace is generally open. However, periods of military activity continue to cause intermittent disruptions in Saudi Arabia, as well as delays and cancellations on flights to other Gulf countries. Airlines are adjusting schedules as conditions evolve, and travelers should expect short-notice changes.
  • Travel guidance. Several governments, including the United States, continue to advise their citizens to exercise heightened caution, monitor official travel and security updates, and prepare for potential travel disruptions.
  • Land borders. Land border crossings across the region generally remain operational. However, security risks are very high near the Saudi-Yemen border.
  • Immigration and consular services. Immigration processing continues largely as normal across the Gulf Cooperation Council and the wider Middle East. Operational impacts remain limited, with the primary disruptions affecting some consular services.

Impact

  • Travelers and workers should consider registering with the consulates of all countries whose citizenship they hold.
  • Employees should follow guidance from their internal travel, global mobility or human resources teams.
  • Organizations should continue reviewing employee travel plans, business continuity arrangements and supply chain risks as the situation evolves.
  • Fragomen’s Middle East and global teams are monitoring airspace changes and airline advisories. For the latest updates, including links to government registration portals, visit our crisis microsite and check relevant airline websites.
  • U.S. citizens can register directly with the U.S. State Department.
  • Fragomen will continue to provide updates and support clients as appropriate.

Looking ahead

The situation remains fluid and may change quickly. Access our microsite for more updates, including government websites to register your presence.

Fragomen is actively monitoring developments and will continue to provide updates as the situation evolves. We are available to discuss tailored scenario planning based on your workforce footprint.

Airspace closures and government operations, including consular post operations, are continuing to be disrupted – we are monitoring the situation here.
