
PVPs are issued to skilled foreign workers who provide services to a Malaysian company on behalf of an overseas company on a temporary basis, usually for up to 12 months. Under the PVP scheme, the foreign worker is still employed by the sending company.
It is likely that employer representatives will no longer need to be present at the MID for every PVP application, since all applications will be processed exclusively through the online portal.
Although officially, in-person applications will not be accepted starting October 1, 2014, MID officers have indicated unofficially that in-person applications will no longer be accepted starting September 26, 2014.
What This Means for Employers
Employers in Malaysia who will need to submit PVP applications should register as soon as possible on the ESD online portal to avoid potential delays. Employers using the new online application process will likely no longer have to appear at the MID to verify the application and may see more efficient processing of PVP applications, although delays in processing times should be expected during the initial stages.
