In line with the Ministry of Home Affairs’ efforts to maintain updated records for foreign nationals and curb potential overstays in India, the Bengaluru City Police department is conducting random immigration status verifications. The goal of the checks is to enhance the security of foreign nationals in Bengaluru.
Police Verification Procedures
Foreign nationals should be prepared for the following verification procedures:
- The Bengaluru City Police department will either call or visit foreign nationals at their residence to inform them to visit their local police station to verify their immigration status.
- Police officers are requiring foreign nationals and landlords to fill out a form called ‘Annexure to Order.’ The form is provided by the police and requires the personal details and signatures of the foreign national and landlord or property manager.
- Foreign nationals registered with the Foreigners’ Regional Registration Office (FRRO) who move to a new residential address must immediately update their residential permit at their local police station.
What This Means for Employers and Foreign Nationals
Employers should ensure that foreign employees who move update their residential permit with their new address immediately after the move.
Foreign nationals should be prepared to present their immigration documentation to police officers in case of a random verification, and should be prepared to complete the Annexure to Order form.
