Romania is proposing immigration reforms that would introduce new visa categories, revised employer authorization requirements and updated immigration processing procedures.
In this Mobility Minute, Assistant Manager Sukhjeet Kaur discusses the proposed D-AM1 and D-AM2 visa categories, which would replace the current work permit framework.
The proposal would also introduce a new employer categorization model based on whether employers are registered or authorized.
In addition, Romania is expected to launch a new digital immigration platform, workinromania.gov.ro, on 8 August 2026.
The reforms would also revise the definition of a posted worker and could affect how certain assignments are structured.
