Russia: Update on Medical Test Rules for Highly Qualified Specialists’ Dependents
July 14, 2023
As an update to the rules on medical checks for Highly Qualified Specialists (HQS), HQS dependents must now undergo a medical checkup, and then submit proof of passing this checkup to migration authorities within 30 days of the government decision to renew the principal applicant’s work permit. Previously, this rule existed for HQS employees only but has now been expanded to dependents. Ambiguity remains in the law in that the current legislation requires a medical examination if the individual leaves and re-enters Russia one year after their medical certificate was issued. In this case, foreign workers are advised to undergo a new checkup within 30 days from their next entry into Russia, and their dependents must do so within 90 days of their next entry.
